How to track a SWIFT payment by UETR
To track a SWIFT payment, you need its UETR, the 36-character reference on your payment confirmation. With it you can ask your bank, check your bank’s own tracker, ask for a trace, or send it to SWIFTarius in Telegram.
SWIFTarius shows what each bank reported in plain words and messages you as soon as a bank in the chain updates the status.
Updated
Step 1: get the UETR
The UETR is on the payment confirmation or advice from your bank: field 121 of an MT103, or PmtId › UETR in a pacs.008. It looks like cf935c67-a3ac-4d58-b2fc-bf2267a14ecd. If you are the recipient, ask the sender for it.
Keep the amount, the currency and the value date at hand too: they help find the payment. More on the format and where banks print it: what is a UETR.
Step 2: choose how to track it
Each option uses the same UETR. They differ in who answers and how quickly.
01
Ask your bank
Your bank can look the payment up by its UETR in the SWIFT gpi Tracker and tell you the latest status. Write with the UETR, the amount and the date, and ask for the status, the last confirmed event and the bank that reported it.
Best for: an official answer, a change to the payment or a cancellation.
02
Use your bank’s online tracker
Many banks show the gpi status of a payment in online banking or on a tracking page on their website, for the payments they handle.
Best for: a quick look at a payment your own bank sent.
03
Ask for a trace
If the payment has not moved for two days, ask the sending bank to investigate. The bank sends an enquiry along the chain through SWIFT and reports the answers. Ask for a case reference and the date of the next update.
Best for: a payment that has stopped, or a credit the beneficiary cannot find.
04
Send the UETR to SWIFTarius
SWIFTarius brings what banks report about the payment into one card in Telegram: the status in plain words, each bank’s report with its code and time, and what to do next. With watch mode on, it messages you as soon as a bank in the chain updates the status.
Best for: senders and recipients who want the status now, and teams that follow many payments.
Track a payment in Telegram with SWIFTarius
The bot works in English, Chinese, Hebrew, Hindi, Arabic and Russian. There is nothing to install and no bank login.
- 01
Open @swiftarius_bot
Open the bot in Telegram on your phone or computer.
- 02
Send the UETR
Paste the UETR with or without hyphens, or paste the whole MT103 text: the bot finds the UETR, the amount, the currency and the value date in it.
- 03
Read the card
The first answer usually comes in about half a minute: the latest status in plain words, each bank’s report with its status code, reason code and time, and what to do next. When a bank reports a hold, the card shows where the payment stopped and why, for example G003: the beneficiary’s bank is waiting for documents.
- 04
Turn on watch mode
Send
/watchwith the UETR. SWIFTarius re-checks the payment around the clock, every 15 minutes in the first six hours after a change, and messages you as soon as a bank in the chain updates the status. A daily digest counts the payments still on their way and sends the ones that need attention as an Excel file. - 05
If it is stuck, use the passport
Send
/passportwith the UETR for the payment passport: everything known about the payment in one document, with draft letters to your bank. Send/sharewith the UETR to get a link for your counterparty. Next steps by status: what to do when a SWIFT payment is stuck.
The first check is free and shows the status once. Watch mode comes with Rescue, one payment watched for 14 days for 19 USDT or 1,000 Telegram Stars, and with the monthly plans: see pricing.
What SWIFTarius shows
- Each bank’s report: the status code, the gpi reason code and the time the bank reported it, in one timeline.
- Where the payment stopped and why, when a bank reports a hold: for example G003, the beneficiary’s bank is waiting for documents.
- The status in plain words, in six languages, and what to do next for that status.
- A message as soon as a bank in the chain updates the status, while watch mode is on, and a flag when a payment has not moved for two days.
- The payment passport: the payment details, every bank report in time order and the open questions, with draft letters to your bank in English and in your language.
- A link for your counterparty that opens in their language and never shows the amount.
- Excel in and out on the Business, Pro and Corporate plans: upload a list of payments and get it back with statuses and a “what to do” column.
Every code explained: SWIFT gpi status codes in plain words.
Track payments from your own systems
The SWIFTarius REST API runs the same check for ERP, treasury and accounting systems. A request to POST /v1/track with the UETR returns the status, each bank’s report and the reason codes as JSON. A check is charged only when it returns an answer, including “not found”.

How long should a SWIFT payment take?
SWIFT reports that nearly 60% of gpi payments are credited to the beneficiary within 30 minutes and almost 100% within 24 hours. A payment takes longer when it waits for a cut-off time, a weekend or a holiday in the currency’s country, or when a bank holds it for checks.
If nothing has moved for two days, ask the sending bank for a trace. SWIFTarius flags such payments in the card, and the payment passport has the letter for the request.
